Y - a simulation

Recorded simulation of 2d physics. Random timed appearance of tuning forks with random generated size. Programmed during the ‘number’ themed Y workshop in memory of Yariv Alter Fin, during which I found out there’s hardly such a thing as a ‘random’ number.

Dancing and jumping between Amsterdam and the Venice Biennial
THE BRIDGE; Eight artistic games by Dutch game designers connect Amsterdam and Venice
At the end of May, a special ‘bridge’ will be opened between the reopened cultural heart of the Netherlands, the Museumplein in Amsterdam, and Venice, the city where the 55th most famous event for contemporary art in the world, La Biennale di Venezia will be organised this summer.
The bridge is formed by a live connection between two large public screens that will be connected live through internet, and by using a special camera, the Kinect. Between May 27 and June 10, at the two sites, visitors can see and meet each other, and play a game together on the spot.
Currently, four artistic games are being developed by Dutch designers (collectives) who were selected based on entries in an open competition. Sander Veenhof, Heinze Havinga and Rachel Kremer, Stijn Kuipers, Priscilla Haring and Sebastian Michailidis and the collectief Zesbaans have formulated an answer to the following question: How can you, by means of a game, in an artistic way, shape a live meeting between visitors of two European cities? Using the technology of the Kinect, also known from the X-Box game console and the internet, people can communicate in the streets through movement. Through the game applications designed by the developers, players can together form a famous group of sculptures, perform a dance or even ‘leap’ between Amsterdam and Venice. And through a Facebook link you can send the pictures taken to all your friends.
From a series of Masterclasses at various Hogescholen and Academies in the Netherlands, also the game concepts of 4 groups of students have been selected. The concepts chosen come from students Gamedesign, New Media or Interaction Design of the Utrecht School of the Arts, the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences and the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. So, a total of 8 games will be presented.
May 27 – June 8, 2013 daily from 10.00 to 20.00 hrs.
Amsterdam: Museumplein (near the pond)
Venice: Riva Ca’ di Dio (near the Arsenale boat stop)
DROPSTUFF.nl is a ‘museum without walls’; a unique cultural infrastructure of mutually connected public screens on central locations in The Hague, Eindhoven, Amersfoort, Breda, Utrecht, and since recently on two locations at Schiphol Airport train station. Being a platform form for media arts and interactive artistic programming –without advertisement, DROPSTUFF.nl transmits through video art works, animations and artistic games. With a smartphone, (through www.dropstuff.nl), on site visitors can individually control the screens of the art works and games, and game with visitors at other DROPSTUFF-screens. So, in the future, visitors can also game through motion of their own body. ‘THE BRIDGE’ initiates this. DROPSTUFF.nl has the ambition to extend the activities to Europe, to bring different Europeans in the street in contact with one another.
Since 2005, DROPSTUFF.nl has presented media art works from Dutch media art talent four times as a part of the Venice Biennial programming. - www.dropstuff.nl

Pepakura Mask Layout

This is a pepakura unfold of one of the models in this file I got from blendswap: http://www.blendswap.com/blends/view/27020
Just the face. When assimilated, it should be about 20 cm high

involuntaryspeech asked: Hey, sorry for the bother, but the mask you did with pepakura, what paper did you print and assemble it on? haha it's rad, also, do you have the pdf images to maybe try it out if it's no bother? xx

Heyhey there’s no bother at all,
I used standard inkjet printer paper, which I strongly suggest you don’t :p it took me forever to put it together and the paper isn’t strong at all. If I were to make one again I’d definitely use some heavy kind of paper, like 300gsm.
I’d rather keep this model to myself, but I wouldn’t recommend it anyway, it has over 600 faces to assemble (took me about 14 hours) and especially the ears are a pain in the ass since they were very detailed and tiny.
However, I think this is a very nice model to give it a shot with: http://opengameart.org/content/human-head-250-verts
Don’t know if you’re familiar with blender? All you have to do is export the low poly version and unfold in pepakura.
let me know, I can make you a pdf it it won’t succeed
